Our Terminal

APM Terminals Libera operates a state-of-the-art multi-purpose port in the Freeport of Monrovia on a 25-year concession from the Government of Liberia. With a capacity of approximately 200,00 TEU per year, the terminal also has facilities for General Cargo (Rice, Wheat, Cement, Clinker, Limestone, Gypsum etc), Project Cargo and Break Bulk, and provides pilotage and towing services.

APM Terminals commenced operations in February 2011 and completed a USD 125 mill upgrade of the facility in 2017. The terminal was upgraded to internationally recognised standards, with fully paved yard, specialist reefer facilities, biometric access control and full CCTV coverage for the highest levels of security, and 4 x 500kva generators providing triple redundancy for business continuity.

Economy

The terminals now supports more than 1,300 direct and contracted employment opportunities. Since 2017 when the phase II investment was completed, General Cargo volumes have grown consistently from 726m to a projected 1,145m metric tonnes in 2021. Container volumes have seen similar growth, increasing from 89 TEU in 2017 to a projected 110 TEU in 2021. Between 2011 and 2020 APM Terminals Liberia also made over USD 107 mill of direct contributions to the government and people of Liberia. Contributions were made via concession fees, corporate and employee taxes and land lease fees.

Rice Specialists

Rice imports can take advantage of a Priority Gate service to speed up the distribution of the grain throughout the country. In addition, we recently upgraded the equipment we use to discharge bags of rice at the port. By using a new 20-tonne spreader, 7.5 metric tonnes of rice can be lifted at a time, a major increase from the 2.5 metric tons lifted previously. Read more about our Priority Gate.

Digital Solutions

The Terminal uses APM Terminals globally approved state-of-the-art terminal operating system, which allows us to provide real-time visibility of import/export container status and a live vessel schedule, providing current expected arrival/departure times. It is also possible to save import containers to a Container Watchlist (click 'Save Containers' after searching for Import Containers using Track & Trace on our homepage), to make it easier to track containers without having to repeat a search. It's also possible to set up email container notifications from your Container Watchlist.

We also offer a service called Terminal Alerts by email or SMS. Simply subscribe here and the terminal will notify you of any urgent operational changes at the terminal, such as delays due to bad weather or terminal software upgrades that may affect our systems.

Health, Safety, Security & Environment

APM Terminals Monrovia operates to international standards, and has implemented APM Terminals global safety standard to ensure the safety of all employees. Implementation of the global approach is paying off, and the terminal recently celebrated 365 of zero Lost Time Injury (LTI) related incidents.
