healthy water bottles leading to better health.
Project description: Sanitation has been in sharp focus since last few years, with greater impetus from government through various projects. No doubt, increase in individual household latrines (IHHL) or toilets, do trickle down and impact sanitation practices, but cannot ensure 100% ODF and behaviour change. The efforts made under the project with APM terminals in Rajula has not only contributed to increase availability of household latrines in rural areas but have also impacted behaviour change in some villages. The greatest beneficiaries of increased toilets at household level have been women, children, old age and divyangs.
The project covers 32 villages (Dhara no Nes , Bhachadar, Hadmatiya, Chhatadiya, Barbtana, Kadiyali, Dhareshvar, Rajparda, Mandaradi, Charodiya , Vad, Devka, Jhampodar, Nava Agariya, Kotadi, Katar, Dipadiya, Vavera, Khakhbai, Barpatoli Navi Juni, Bherai, Hindorana, Khambhaliya, Kundaliyala, Mota Agariya, Mota Ringaniyala, Nani Kherali, Rampara-2, Untiya-Gnajavadar, Zanjarda, Dhudiya Agariya, Kumbhariya) of Rajula Taluka covering 1919 households, 10555 human population.
Impact on community: More than 2500 sanitation units constructed through community support.

- 65- 80% households across all project villages have improved personal hygiene
- On an average, 10% of HHs have been impacted through getting productive time due to toilet facility at home.

Piloting Micro Irrigation System (MIS) based Lift Irrigation
Project Information: The projects is aimed towards scaling of the intervention in 32 salinity affected villages, block Rajula, District Amreli,Gujarat. The project’s aim to improve socio-economic condition of farmers through various interventions under agriculture and Natural Resource Management (NRM) in the salinity affected villages and to build community based institutions for long term sustainability of interventions.
The project is designed to operationalize Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM) through enhancing Water Resource Management with the adoption of Micro Irrigation System as a lift irrigation scheme. The village has 4000 hectors of land and out of which1500 hectors has irrigation facility. 1500 hectors is non-irrigated and 1000 hectors falls under grazing land.
The village Kotdi is on the banks of Dhatarvadi river. The river has one check dam at upstream near Dhareswar named as Dhatarvadi-1 for irrigation and drnking water needs of surrounding areas. The river has second check dam at downstream near village khakhbai named as Dhatarvadi-2 for irrigation.
The village Kotdi and two other villages Japodar and Mandardi are in command area of Dhatarvadi-2. Irrigation dam Dhatarvadi-2 has water holding capacity of 10.9 Mm3 which is sufficient for about 2700 hectors of land.
At that time when we began the project only 50 farmers were using this facility for about 70 hectors. The one of the key objective of the project was to cover as many as farmers as possible under irrigation by forming a cooperative irrigation society. This project is broadly covered all other related issues of soil and water related salinity technique management.

- 205 hectares’ land would be covered under micro irrigation systems through integrated approach of Kotadi Lift Irrigation Project which results in an average water saving by 30%;
- Efforts are being made to ensure maximum farmers adopts water use efficiency measures to enhance water saving in agriculture use; and Adoption of improved farming practices by more than 70% farmers.
- Development of sustainable institutional mechanism on water management and on collective marketing through institutional structures like Producer Company and Water User Association.

The project covers 22 villages (Agariya Dhuriya, Bherai, Chhatadiya, Devka, Mandardi Navi, Kadiyali, Kumbhariya, Kundaliyala, Rampara, Ringaliyana Mota, Rajparda, Khambhaliya, Hadmatiya, Kotadi, Katar, Barpatoli, Khakhbai, Shiyalbet, Untiya, Vad, Bhachadar consisting of 8522 households & 50260 human population of Rajula block of Amreli district.
Impact on Community:
Integrated water and natural resources management
Project Information: The project extends to 33 villages of Rajula block in Amreli district.
Inherent salinity of land and its rapid ingress from sea over a period has led to depletion of natural resources, especially ground water, in the coastal region of Gujarat. The farmers in Rajula block in Amreli district face a similar problem with much intensity/ severity. The area is characterised by saline water that disrupts the normal course of agriculture and lack of healthy drinking water. Scarcity of fresh water has also adverse effect of villagers’ life style.
In partnership with the Coastal Salinity Prevention Cell (CSPC), Vivekanand Research & Training Institute and Piramal Water Private Limited, GPPL has initiated its Integrated Natural resources management project (Pravah) that aims to address the issue of salinity ingress and ground water with high TDS through ground water recharge, natural resources management interventions (like RRWHs, farm ponds, check dams, community plantation, harnessing solar energy, bio gas plants, soil mapping etc), improvement in agricultural practices, providing the community with access to safe drinking water and formation of community based organizations, as well as enhancement of their institutional capacities to manage scare natural resources along behavioural change process for the optimal & scientific use of the natural resources like water and plants etc. As a part of the project, scientific farming practices or cotton, ground water, wheat, onion and vegetables are demonstrated. The project was started in 2016 and after the impact analysis/ study it is redesigned for the next five years.
Impact on community: The project has benefitted the small and marginal farmers across 33 villages immensely. Productivity has increased by 10 – 15 percent post the intervention. With lift irrigation and check dams in place now, optimal distribution of water leads the farmers to engage in production of 2 – 3 crops per year against only one crop earlier.
Installation and usage of water ATMs in 12 villages has led to decrease in water borne diseases like stomach pain, jaundice, diarrhoea etc. In next five-year significant increase is expected in the level of water table of the project villages leading to water surplus villages.
Project Information: The project is designed for Shiyalbet village of Jafrabad taluka covering 830 households and 8500 human population which is dependent on fishing for their livelihood. Fishermen/women generally used traditional techniques for fishing depending on intuitive understanding of the sea which limited their catch as well as income. This project aims to help fisher men/ women imbibe scientific techniques for fishing, drying and storing the catch appropriately; for longer shelf life. Related kits like Pagadiya kit, solar light, ice box is distributed among the community. By providing early education on fisheries, we are creating awareness about career in fisheries.
Impact on Community:
Fishermen started using mobile technology for locating fish and to be in tune with weather conditions. Significant increase in income up to 15% is reported due to adoption of contemporary fish sorting and drying practices.
Project information: Skill & entrepreneurship development is the key to enhance livelihood opportunities & ameliorate existing opportunities at the grass root level. To ensure employment of youths APM Terminals partnered with Ambuja Cement Foundation in 2015. 210 youths are trained with 92% placement record as of March, 2018 and 93 youths are undergoing training in trades like nursing, electrical, fitter fabricator, machine operator, two wheeler technician & BPO etc.
The project is spread across 33 villages (Kadiyali, Bherai, Dhareshvar, Vavera, Devka, Kumbhariya, Hadmatiya, Kherali Nani, Chhatdiya, Barbatana, Charodiya, Dipdiya, Aagriya Mota, Aagriya Nava, Aagriya Dhuliya, Rajparda, Ringayna Mota, Ganjavadar, Untiya, Zanzarda, Zapodar, Kotadi, Katar, Barpatoli, Khakhbai, Vad, Khambhliya, Bhachadar, Dhara no Nesh, Rampara 2 & Shiyalbet) of Rajula Taluka covering 13634 households, 120860 human population including 25830 youth aged between 18 to 35 yrs.
Impact on Community: 193 youths have been placed with minimum monthly salary of Rs 8000/- contributing Rs 15,44,000/- towards economy of core villages every month.
