Amplifying Inclusion: APM Terminals’ Commitment to Diversity
At APM Terminals, our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives are an important part of our company culture, and core to the values we share as a group. We believe that driving innovation and fostering inclusivity go hand in hand, and we recognize the importance of providing opportunities to those who are so far under-represented in our teams around the world.
In celebration of the International Day of People with Diverse Abilities on December 3, we held various activations to highlight the importance of inclusion — specifically for those who have physical limitations or who are neurodivergent.
Proactive approach
As part of proactive steps taken, we held training sessions for our talent acquisition professionals and sought learnings on how to best attract, hire, onboard and retain diverse talent. We celebrated diversity by sharing movie and book titles which feature characters with diverse abilities, and we raised awareness within the company about digital accessibility in our marketing and promotional materials, as well as physical accessibility by stressing the need for universal design and ease of use for our products and facilities.
In APM Terminals Poti, the hiring team welcomed three new hires with diverse abilities in recent months, including Givi Lomaia, who has joined as a CCTV Control Room Assistant. In his role, he supports the coordination of security operations, manages emergency activities and ensures safety and security with integrity, efficiency and professionalism.
Reflecting on his onboarding, Lomaia said “the team and working environment have made the transition smooth, and I’m becoming more comfortable with my responsibilities each day. I and my new colleagues been made to feel very welcome. There’s been a lot of attention to ensure that we have everything we need to do a good job. Already, it doesn’t feel like ‘just a job’; it feels more like a family to me.”
Lomaia's experience is not unique at APM Terminals. On the other side of the world — in Pecém, Brazil — our colleague João Gabriel, who works as an administrative auxiliary member of the HSSE team had this to say: “I am proud to see the company is committed to social inclusion, especially promoting opportunities for people with disabilities. This demonstrates to me that inclusion is an important and fundamental value in creating an environment where everyone can feel respected and valued.”
Above and beyond
But as 2025 is kicking off, the efforts of APM Terminals extend beyond individual experiences. In APM Terminals Pecém, for example, the team are taking proactive steps to further build talent pipelines for individuals with diverse abilities.
Key initiatives include engaging candidates for future opportunities — should they be unsuccessful in an initial application — and conducting regular interviews with pipeline candidates to keep them connected and interested in joining the company, as well as identifying potentially suitable roles.
Such initiatives reflect our shared commitment to removing barriers, to lifting global trade and to building a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.
